July 27- Institute of Plantation Studies (IKP) had organized Research Seminar Series 7/2022 entitled “Mycelium-based Composite: A Way Forward for Renewable Biomaterial”, presented by Dr Ezyana Kamal Bahrin, a research associate from the Laboratory of Process and Product Development, IKP. This seminar introduced a new approach to develop composite biomaterial using mycelium fungi.
Mycelium-based composite is an alternative petroleum-based polymer that offers the advantage of the biodegradable property and renewable resources as compared to petroleum polymers such as polystyrene and plastic packaging which are normally regarded as unsustainable materials. This seminar was attended by 30 participants from UPM, government, and private agencies. This seminar received many positive feedbacks from the participants who are keen to explore new and sustainable resources for composite materials.
