Asst. Professor Dr. Potjamarn Suraninpong from Institute of Agriculture Technology, Walailak University, Thailand visited Institute of Plantation Studies, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) on January 24, 2019 as part of her trip to Malaysia. Asst. Professor Dr. Potjamarn is very active in research pertaining to agriculture sciences in Thailand. She is an expert in plant biotechnology, especially in the area of gene transfer; tissue culture and mutation induction. Her current research focuses on the use of biotechnology for plant conservation, particularly on the application of molecular markers for breeding and fingerprinting of plant varieties including anthurium and rubber.
She was entertained by Dr. Azzreena Mohammad Azzeme where potential collaborations in research between Walailak University and UPM was explored. She also met the Director of IKP, Professor. Datin Dr. Siti Nor Akmar Abdullah on opportunities in gaining international linkages and exchange of ideas in plantation development.
